Nicholas Hedlund

Dr. Nicholas Hedlund is a visionary philosopher whose expertise bridges the philosophy of science, worldview analysis, and socioecological change. Dedicated to unraveling the complexities of the metacrisis, Dr. Hedlund has developed innovative approaches to sensemaking and meaning-making within these spheres. He received a PhD from University College London, where he had the privilege of studying under the renowned philosopher Roy Bhaskar. Dr. Hedlund is the founding director of the Eudaimonia Institute in Northern California, an emerging social innovations lab committed to planetary flourishing. His scholarly contributions include books such as “Metatheory for the Twenty-First Century” and the two-volume series “Metatheory for the Anthropocene”, which address critical realism, integral theory, and responses to global challenges. At present, Dr. Hedlund teaches in the Integral Noetic Sciences Program at the California Institute for Human Science.
