In this presentation I argue that the metacrisis is birthing the new human—it is a forcing function for the evolution of humanity’s self-understanding and the clarification and the ultimate meaning and purpose of the human project. Drawing on the philosophy of visionary realism, I argue that the world itself—what Bhaskar refers to as alethic truth or the reality principle—seems to be demanding deep transformation to new structures of consciousness that can support the emergence of new cultural and social formations that are in resonance with reality and the sacred. Such transformations, guided by the meta-principle of alethic resonance may not only avert existential catastrophe but also actualize profound opportunities for species-level spiritual maturation and the emergence of a flourishing planetary society. In this way, the metacrisis is a Kairos moment – an opportune window for decisive, right action and radical non-linear social transformation.
