Camila Reyes Azcuénaga is committed to love. During her life she has been dedicated to building peace and strengthening trust and mutual support among people in Colombia. She has lead training programs, addressing the development of relational skills that are essential to comply with the humanitarian missions of the Disappeared Persons Search Unit (UBPD) and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, among other social and grassroots organizations committed to social change in Colombia.
Camila is the founder of Resuena , an organization set out on a dream to expand the access to Nonviolent Communication in Colombia so that it becomes part of the day-to-day culture.
My path with Nonviolent Communication (NVC) began with a deep longing: to move beyond simply reducing the impacts of war and toward addressing its root causes. I studied Law and Political Science at the University of the Andes in Bogotá, and today I remain one of the few Certified Trainers from the Global South. I currently serve on the Board of Directors of CNVC. My participation reflects a collective effort by trainers from Latin America who are committed to bringing our region’s voices and perspectives into the global evolution of NVC and into the decisions that shape its development worldwide.
I believe that Nonviolent Communication offers a powerful pathway for learning how to live together in peace, with dignity and well-being for all living beings. This conviction has guided my commitment to democratizing access to NVC as a cultural transformation—one that can help us move beyond systems of domination and lay the foundations for a lasting culture of peace in Colombia and throughout Latin America. In 2017, I founded Resuena , an organization dedicated to interrupting cycles of violence in Colombia. Since then, we have focused on creating Nonviolent Communication Schools in communities most affected by the armed conflict, working in regions such as Antioquia, Cauca, Valle del Cauca, Sucre, and Bolívar.
In 2022, Resuena launched the first National Network of Nonviolent Communication Seed Leaders, made up of social and environmental leaders—67% of whom are women. In a country that continues to suffer deep wounds from violence, this network represents a living example of hope: communities organizing to cultivate new ways of relating and building peace despite adversity. The network has reached more than 6,300 people, including survivors of the armed conflict, students, women’s organizations, and youth at risk of forced recruitment. It has also contributed to incorporating NVC principles into three local development plans, helping influence long-term public policy.
Another milestone for Resuena has been the creation of the educational initiative “365 Days of NVC Challenge.” This free program , delivered through WhatsApp, provides daily NVC practices and reflections in text and audio. More than 8,200 people across 52 countries are currently participating, making it an accessible and scalable way to expand NVC in Spanish across schools, universities, workplaces, families, and both public and private institutions.
Through education and community leadership, Resuena works every day to awaken the collective power of people to strengthen their capacity to build peace in everyday life—and to contribute to closing the deep inequalities that persist across Latin America. Me llamo Camila Reyes Azcuénaga. Mi camino con la Comunicación Noviolenta, nació del deseo profundo de pasar de atenuar los impactos de la guerra, a contribuir a erradicar sus causas. Estudié Derecho y Ciencia Política en la universidad de Los Andes en Bogotá, y aun soy una de las pocas facilitadoras certificadas del Sur Global en Comunicación Noviolenta. Formó parte de la Junta Directiva del Centro Internacional de Comunicación Noviolenta en Estados Unidos, como una apuesta para que se de la activación de esta conciencia en el planeta, y llegue a esta Junta Directiva como parte de un esfuerzo organizado de entrenadores de LATAM que queremos incidir en las decisiones que afectan a nuestra región.
Estoy convencida de que la Comunicación Noviolenta, nos abre un camino para aprender a convivir pacíficamente, con bienestar y dignidad para tod@s los seres vivos: por eso me dedico a promover su democratización como una propuesta de cambio cultural, que nos impulse a trascender las lógicas de la dominación tanto en Colombia como en América Latina, y sentar las bases para una cultura paz sostenida en el tiempo.
Inicie Resuena en 2017 como una forma organizada que busca interrumpir los ciclos repetidos de violencia en Colombia. Desde entonces hemos centrado nuestros esfuerzos en realizar Escuelas de Comunicación Noviolenta con las comunidades más afectadas por el conflicto armado, en departamentos como Antioquia, Cauca, Valle del Cauca, Sucre y Bolívar. En 2022, la organización fundó la Primera Red Nacional de Sembradores de Comunicación Noviolenta, conformada por lideres / lideresas sociales y ambientales, mayoritariamente por mujeres (67%).
Esta Red, hoy representa una esperanza para mostrarle un camino hacia la convivencia, a un país que no para de desangrarse, y que a la vez está lleno de iniciativas que están promoviendo la paz a pesar de la adversidad. La red ha beneficiado a más de 6,300 personas, incluyendo víctimas del conflicto, estudiantes, colectivos de mujeres y jóvenes en riesgo de reclutamiento forzado. Además, ha integrado los principios de CNV en tres planes de desarrollo local, influyendo en políticas públicas a largo plazo.
Otro de los logros destacado de Resuena ha sido el desarrollo de la estrategia pedagógica denominada “ Reto 365 días de CNV ,” una iniciativa gratuita que se difunde a través de WhatsApp y que ha permitido que más de 8,200 personas de 52 países reciban, en formato texto y audio, contenidos y prácticas de CNV diariamente. Está siendo un aporte fundamental para la promoción de la CNV de manera accesible y en gran escala en español, que poco a poco ha ido llegando a colegios, universidades, oficinas, familias, entidades privadas y públicas etc.
Resuena continúa trabajando cada día para lograr a través de la pedagogía, contribuir a activar el poder de millones de personas de ampliar su capacidad individual y colectiva de aportar a la construcción de paz en la vida cotidiana, y para contribuir a cerrar para siempre la brecha de la desigualdad en América Latina.
