Passions:

Valerie loves traveling and learning about the world. She fell in love with teaching while working overseas as a teacher and teacher trainer in Thailand and South Korea for 8 years. She taught at a private elementary school in Toronto and now, as a Parent Coach, assists families wanting more joy and peace in their homes.

Valerie believes deeply in giving back and taking action towards making the world a more loving place. She and her husband Dave Tih co-founded Step Up in 2007 to empower tsunami-affected children living in poverty in Sri Lanka. They opened a school in Habaraduwa village on the southern tip of Sri Lanka in 2014. They raised funds to send a Sri Lankan graduate to medical school in Belarus.

Valerie and her husband have 2 boys and her youngest has Down syndrome. Valerie initiated a New Parent Outreach Program through the Down Syndrome Association of Toronto to provide emotional support to parents who receive a Down syndrome diagnosis either prenatally or postnatally. She enjoys advocating for people with disabilities and has done a series of webinars on disability topics for Partners for Planning.
