I love seeing clarity bloom on faces when the beauty of Nonviolent Communication (NVC) consciousness arises. These moments of healing are magical for me. To sit with another person or a group of people and connect authentically feeds me like nothing else.

Like Marshall Rosenberg, I believe it is our nature to enjoy giving and receiving in a compassionate manner. For me, this is the heart of Nonviolent Communication, its spirituality. I also believe anyone can access this spirituality.

I say this not only because of my personal experience but also what I’ve witnessed in others, whether they are incarcerated men or retired schoolteachers.

I am a strong advocate for social justice, particularly racial healing. I find it important to acknowledge and name how the system of domination influences us.

I’ve been sharing NVC in a medium security state prison since 2016 and with other groups online since 2020.
