By education, Polona is a sociologist with professional roots in youth work and close to 30 years of experience in project management. She has been working in various teams, connecting people and supporting their growth, from the local to the international level. As a facilitator of group processes and a trainer in non-formal learning, she strives to create conditions in which people feel safe, grow closer, and collaborate. She is a yoga practitioner and has also taught yoga in the past. In her private life, she highlights her role as the mother of two (now adult) children and a long-term partnership with her life companion — relationships that offer ongoing opportunities for learning.
It was precisely the changes in her family that motivated her to embark on a journey of exploring Nonviolent Communication (NVC), which was one of the most important steps in her life. She attended Nonviolent Communication in 2015 with Certified Trainers
Robert Kržišnik
and
Marjeta Novak
. She wanted to gain some tools to help her navigate family changes more easily. The workshop gave her much more than that. Gradually, NVC also became important in her professional work—either as a topic in itself or as a tool within other themes.
In NVC trainings she uses approaches of non-formal learning and participatory processes. She has a strong interest in body-based work, which led her to become enthusiastic about using NVC Dance Floors, created by
Gina Lawrie
and
Bridget Belgrave
. In 2025 she translated them into Slovenian together with
Jaka Kovač
and Matija Mazi. So far, she facilitates NVC workshops for NGOs, teachers, parents, youth workers, and individuals, and she would like to work more with couples.
Polona is active in the Slovenian NVC community, where she organizes community gatherings and practice groups. With her extensive experience in project management, she also enjoys contributing to the organization of NVC initiatives, whether supporting her local community or helping with international events.
