I work as a social pedagogue in a forensic hospital with mentally ill and addicted offenders. I discovered Nonviolent Communication in 2010 when I was looking for other approaches to patients who were sometimes aggressive and difficult to reach. I have found that NVC allows me to re-establish contact and connection where there is a lot of aggression.
I give introductory and in-depth seminars both in my own clinic and in other clinics and residential homes to offer a different kind of connection to both patients and staff – connection beyond right and wrong. The idea that all behavior is based on trying to fulfill our needs opens up the possibility, especially when working with delinquent people, of coming to terms with the offense and finding humanity again.
