Fatoş Ateş

Fatoş Ateş

I was first introduced to Nonviolent Communication (NVC) in 2017 through the Another School Is Possible (BBOM) program, Another Teacher Are Possible. The training I received from Vivet Alevi opened a transformative door — both in how I relate to myself and how I connect with others. This experience allowed me to build deeper relationships not only with my students but also with myself.

I currently work as an English teacher in a public middle school under the Ministry of National Education in Türkiye. Within my teaching practice, I integrate the principles of Nonviolent Communication into my lessons, relationships with students, and school interactions. I care deeply about creating classrooms where students can express
themselves freely, feel heard, and experience cooperation rather than competition.

To expand the presence of NVC in educational settings, I actively take part in international projects and collaborate with civil society organizations that focus on spreading and applying Nonviolent Communication. In these projects, I contribute both as a trainer and a content designer, supporting efforts to make the language of compassion accessible to diverse age groups and learning environments.

For me, Nonviolent Communication is a way of living — a path to move beyond limiting beliefs, connect with our inner strength, and care for the relationships that need healing and
attention Sharing this approach with children and the adults who accompany them holds deep meaning for me, as I believe it contributes to a culture of empathy, understanding, and mutual respect.

In my educational work, I draw inspiration from storytelling, creative drama, and the transformative power of art. These practices help me enrich my expression and deepen connection. I also believe in the creative energy of play, and I am currently designing an NVC-based board game to help children and adults explore empathy, communication, and collaboration through play.

My intention is to nurture peace within ourselves and let it grow in our communities, walking this path with joy, curiosity, and a deep desire to co-create and discover the richness of connection together.
