For the last 2,500 years at least, philosophy has played a crucial role in the emergence of new stages of history. Now in our time, integral philosophy can serve in this way by stimulating the further evolution of consciousness and culture. An important part of this project of cultivating cultural emergence entails transcending the established philosophies that underpin modernity and postmodernity—namely, analytic philosophy and continental philosophy. Integral philosophy’s power to transcend these previous philosophical frames can be found in its enlarged understanding of noosphere evolution. It is by clearly illuminating our next cultural step—a “post-postmodern” synthesis—that integral philosophy can help us grow beyond our contemporary challenges.
