The U.S. Supreme Court has taken an absolutist path since the 1950’s. The path veered to the left in the 50’s and 60’s in relation to Civil Rights, criminal rights, and abortion. Later, there was pushback from Conservatives as they sought narrow some rights while expanding others. The other rights included guns, corporate rights, states rights, and religious rights. These absolutist approaches are problematic. The lack of recognition of co-equal branches of Government having a part to play in deciding these questions is also unprecedented. The absolutist rights nature of the discussion leaves out the partial truths of the other side. Justice Alito’s statement in Dobbs that Roe was “egregiously wrong” is an example. Integral Theory can map out the various theoretical approaches and put them in their proper developmental space and quadrant. This talk will show the path forward towards integration and honoring the higher truths of justice for all beings under our Constitution.
