Integral

This presentation explores a novel source of inspiration for integration psychedelic experiences: Islamic intellectual, spiritual, and ethical traditions. Three aspects of Islamic spirituality may be of particular interest for psychedelic practitioners: Sufi ideas of the faculty of the creative imagination and an imaginal realm; the holistic paradigm of spiritual, ecological, and interpersonal of self-cultivation that is the sharīʿah; and unique forms of spiritual communities.
Along with the various indigenous spiritualities where psychedelic rituals and rites have been practiced for centuries, Islamic traditions may also contribute wisdom and novelty into this field, helping to maximize the transformative potential of psychedelic experiences. Connecting the potency of exceptional experiences produced by psychedelics with robust and historic traditions such as these may be crucial in producing more integrated futures—futures that are cosmopolitan, ecological, and visionary.
