The mainstream scientific paradigm, known as the reductionist paradigm, suggests that life is improbable, transient, and of no cosmic significance. This leads to a nihilistic philosophy with negative effects on mental health and morality. This presentation is an introduction to a non-reductive theory of everything that is a unifying theory of reality, based on complexity science, neuroscience, evolutionary theory, and the philosophy of emergence. According to this new paradigm, nature is self-organizing and self-actualizing. In other words, as a result of the laws of physics, and the evolutionary dynamics that emerge from them, nature’s simplest systems recursively organize themselves into larger systems, which become the building blocks for the next level of complexity in the growing hierarchy of life, mind, and culture. This suggests that as intelligent conscious agents, humans have a creative and essential role to play in cosmic evolution. The next major stage in this process is the emergence of a global mind, or “noosphere,” that our civilization must form by unifying the nations under a coherent scientific and spiritual worldview that aligns our common interests. Acknowledging our cosmic significance and existential purpose instills life with meaning and direction that can create transformative change at both an individual and societal level.
