Dear friends,
After a meet up in June 2011 drew 17 people out of the woodwork simply to see what might be happening in the San Diego integral community a series of meetings was convened to explore some possible answers to that question.
Now, 20 months later and something in the ballpark of 80 meetings a core group of us have worked and laughed and argued and sweat and cried and become bored, and created, became confused, found, and lost again, have discovered inspiration and hope, have asked the question again and again what does the world need? What do we want? What do we have to offer? And even, what is integral?
Some days it looked like we were going nowhere, and others it seemed as though we might actually be on the verge of building something exciting. Rare were the days when everyone in the room would agree which of those it was. Nonetheless, all of that work and love and time and patience and commitment have formed a seed which is now ready to be watered, to germinate, and to sprout.
On the last Thursday in January, and the first Thursday in February a large and energetic group convened to learn about Holocracy (a system of agile governance for organization.) Out of that moved the sentiment that we were ready to organize a formal structure to begin doing real work to foster integral and even post integral consciousness here in San Diego and the world at large.
On Sunday, March 10 from 2 to 9 PM we are going to have an initiatory celebration/process to germinate and launch that seed into the world. This will be fun, this will be work, this will be educational, with luck this may even be transformational. We will start the afternoon with a rich selection of relational games to help us open up and relax into one another, after that we will move through a process of crafting and organizing the formal body of San Diego Integral. The bulk of the afternoon/evening will be spent in a series of Holocratic elections and initial governance meetings to get the organization off the ground. The evening will finish with a community gathering and dinner (informal/BYOB).
This free event is open to anyone in the general public who is interested to come and be a part of this organization, or simply those who would like to say I was there when. Come alone or bring a friend, this will be fun, this will be work, this will be community at its finest.

Considering the gifts and challenges that arise from being in conscious community it’s with both enthusiasm and humility that I extend this invitation to deepen our work together as San Diego Integral. Truth told, I hold our involvement lightly—an amalgamation of souls with our intentions, desires, both light, and shadow at play in our coming together. My selfish desires to further my skills in community leadership and as a Holacracy facilitator and coach are certainly at play as much as my desire to further conscious Integral community in San Diego. Also in the mix is my involvement as a course leader, community member, and Holacracy facilitator and coach at the Integral Center in Boulder where we are in an unfolding experiment in fostering integral consciousness through local community development. Our mission there is, in part, to suport communities like our nascent one in San Diego. I expect there to be some degree of synergy with our work there where we both teach courses in building community and practice Holacracy as an organization.
I have put a lot of thought and heart into this community organization process we are inviting you to participate in. Even if it turns out that what we’re up to isn’t something you wish to continue with further, I bet it will be a fascinating and dynamic experience for you. Come along for the ride!
